Rusty Nelson grew up outside of Philadelphia until he attended college at the University of Dayton in Ohio. Soon after, he was selected to the Air Force's flight school and had an outstanding career as an officer piloting T-37's, 38's, B-52's and the U-2 spy plane. After working in the entertainment industry producing and directing he picked up a still camera and fell in love with the idea of a single image capturing a story. Ever since he has been on the never-ending adventure to learn the art and mechanics of making/printing an image and sharing his adventures through speaking engagements. Currently, he guides photographers from all over the world storm/tornado chasing in tornado alley to get their photograph of a lifetime. (See Speaker Info menu)
He’s also a Certified Expert by Adobe in Photoshop Lightroom and enjoys teaching others how they can improve in their photography skills.
"Although I'm what I would call an eclectic photographer, one thing I really enjoy doing besides shooting extreme weather is what I call Light Sculpted Images. I try to take an abandoned scene or still life and produce an image as though somebody just left before my camera arrived. I truly believe “My Camera is My Best Excuse for Adventure”.
Recently Rusty had his images hung in the New Canon Experience Center, on display at The G2 Gallery in Venice CA, Hoot Smith Gallery CA, KSI Gallery PA, and awarded Photographer of the Year by The Professional Photographers of Los Angeles and Photograph of the Year by the Delaware Photographic Society.
He works on his printing and photography at his gallery on 210 E Street, Kennet Square, PA.
